PATTI: Considering how my life is going it's probably almost for certain.

Moderator: ha ha...

PATTI: I'm doing a major project with Doubleday that will contain all the lyrics, annotations, journal entries and photographs from 1971-1998.

Moderator: wow...

PATTI: Yes - I have not completed the project as I still find it difficult. But promise that it will eventually be completed.

PATTI: I think she's a good worker - I met her recently and she was very nice.

PATTI: A few.

PATTI: I haven't had time to listen to it - but I think it was very nice of the people to do.

PATTI: I consider Walt Whitman the father of modern poetry and still like to read him.

PATTI: Poets are called by God. The form will never die.

PATTI: The difference I find between audiences is energy - some are more physical, some more cerebral - all are interesting.

Moderator: you seem to interact a lot with crowds. do you enjoy it?

PATTI: Interaction is part of the main point of performing. It helps form and reform the rhythm of the night.

PATTI: It's just the rhythm within - I don't know what else to say.

PATTI: Each song is a unique experience. Some are improvised with the band, sometimes I'll have a piece of music and write the words to it (for instance Oliver Ray wrote the music to "Blue Poles" and I wrote the lyrics later), or in the case of PHTP, I wrote the lyrics first and then the music was written.

KyleL says, "ask/ The best albums are the ones that embrace joy, not misery. The best Pink Floyd album will never compare with Neil Young's "Rust Never Sleeps" or the Talking Heads' "Remain in Light." Even with everything that's happened to you, do you think you'll ever write an album that celebrates the joy of living? (Besides, are our lives really long enough to waste wallowing in pain anyway?)"

Moderator presents the speaker with question #61 from Bill: Gretchen asks: 'You have made me cry Patti, you have made me laugh in the most sinister and sarcastic of way. Your words are truth and they have given me strength, and they have broken me. I admire you so for overcoming such obstacles in your life. What made you decide to share this grief and has the sharing made you stronger and more healthy in spirit?'

PATTI says, "It's part of an artist's responsiblity to share their experiences."

Moderator presents the speaker with question #124 from lkg: Are you happy 2B back in NYC? What are the most noticeable/interesting/appalling changes since you last resided here permanently?

PATTI says, "I'm happy to be back despite the tourists and Donald Trump's huge new structure on the West SIde Highway."

Moderator says, "ha ha..."

Moderator says, "patti, what do you think of the various cover versions of your songs, like u2's "dancing barefoot" and the maniacs' "because the night"/"
